Most of us only heard about John Woolfe when he was killed tragically in the crash of his Porsche 917 Long Tail in the opening lap of the 1969 Le Mans 24 Hour race. In fact, John, who had always had in his head the objective to participate with his own car at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, had created his John Woolfe Racing (JWR) team 2 years earlier, acquiring successively various sports cars : a Chevron B12 GP 4 sports car (which participated in the 1968 Le Mans 24 Hours), a Shelby Cobra Holman & Moody 7 Liters, the Lola T70 Mk 3 Coupé presented here, a Mc Laren M6B and another Lola T70 Mk3B (chassis number SL76/146) before the fatal Porsche 917.

The Chevrolet engined Lola T70 Mk 3 Coupé presented here - chassis number SL/73/102 - was initially delivered in 1967 to
Sidney Taylor who entered it in more than twenty international sports cars events from July 1967 to June 1968 (see the main entries and results here), most often driven by the redoubtable Denny Hulme / Frank Gardner pair, but also by Sid himself, Brian Redman and a few others.

John Woolfe bought it from Sid after the 1968 200 Miles Norisring event. Once the car repainted in the distinctive JWR livery - blue paintwork with two yellow stripes running along the body and the famous wolf emblem - it was entered in a tenth of sports car events from July 1968 to June 1969, driven by John himself and
Digby Martland (either in solo or sharing the driving), Brian Muir, Richard Attwood or Denny Hulme who signed his unique drive for John by a magnific victory at the 1969 Silverstone Daily Express Trophy (again details and results here).
After the death of John Woolfe, the car went to Germany and will be seen in various hill climbs during a few years.

1969 Snetterton Guards Trophy (April 4th) in the hands of Dickie Attwood (DNF). Two people have been of great help while making that drawing : David Riswick, currently President of John Woolfe Racing Ltd, who provided me with photos of SL73/102 and kind encouragements and Anders Hedborg - owner of the car since 1976 - whose “first hand” comments on my initial version and “nit picking” gave me a unique chance to correct a few details and get it right.
